Baqarah
235 235- THERE IS NO BLAME UPON YOU
CONCERNING THE OFFERS OF MARRIAGE YOU MAY MAKE TO WOMEN INDIRECTLY, OR IF YOU
CONCEAL IT INSIDE YOURSELVES. ALLAH
KNOWS THAT YOU WILL BE THINKING OF THEM, BUT DO NOT MEET THEM OR MAKE THEM
PROMISES IN SECRET, UNLESS YOU SPEAK TO THEM HONOURABLY. AND DO NOT MAKE THE INTENTION OF THE
MARRIAGE UNTIL THE END OF THE TERM, AND KNOW THAT ALLAH KNOWS WHAT IS INSIDE
YOU, THEREFORE TAKE HEED OF HIM, AND KNOW THAT ALLAH IS MOST FORGIVING AND MOST
FORBEARING. This
Ayah is about the virtuous and decent way of men approaching women during their
Edda concerning marriage. As
the marriage dissolves only after the end of the Edda, a man may approach
in Edda indirectly in the following circumstances only: 1-
A
woman who has been divorced three times. 2-
A
woman who’s husband died. 3-
A
woman divorced by court on her request, as her husband does not have the right
to take her back except with a fresh wedding contract and dowry. Making
indirect offers of marriage to any of those women during the Edda, is to express interest or in a passing remark which can be
understood as personal interest. Allah
the Highest is forbidding us from: 1-
Meeting
women in secret before marriage. 2-
Making
them secret promises. All promises
associated with the marriage should be witnessed. Like all the marriage terms, they should be
agreed upon and witnessed and preferably written in the marriage contract. 3-
There
should be no intention to try to have the marriage before the end of the
woman’s Edda. 4-
There
should be not intention to have physical relationship with this woman
meanwhile. Allah
the Highest talks here about our intentions, which comes before the
actions. Than Allah the Highest reminds
us that we should take heed of the fact that He knows what is inside us, what
we think, what we meant to do, and why. It
is important to note that Allah the Highest is warning us about the intention
of doing what may lead to adultery.
Adultery is a sin Allah the Highest told us not to approach, not just
commit. “DO NOT APPROACH ADULTERY”
(S:17 A:32) This
is because adultery usually has preparations and events leading to it,
therefore avoiding being in a situation where adultery may be committed is
safer than being in this situation then trying not to.
