Baqarah
265 265- THE PARABLE OF THOSE WHO SPEND OF THEIR WEALTH SEEKING ALLAH’S
PLEASURE AND STRENGTHENING THEIR OWN SOULS, IS THAT OF A GARDEN ON A HILL, WATERED
BY HEAVY RAIN TO DOUBLE IT’S HARVEST, BUT IF NOT WATERED BY HEAVY RAIN, THE DEW
WATERS IT; AND ALLAH SEES EVERY THING YOU DO. Allah
the Highest is giving us another parable.
This parable is about spending in the cause of Allah. First this spending is aimed at pleasing
Allah the Highest and strengthening our own souls. How
would spending for charity and in the cause of Allah strengthen our souls? 1-
The
best thing that strengthens our souls is to please Allah the Highest. 2-
Our
money and property are temptations, and to give some of it away is defeating
this temptation. Allah the Highest said:
“AND KNOW THAT YOUR WEALTH AND CHILDREN ARE
TEMPTATION AND TRIAL FOR YOU, AND ALLAH HAS GREAT REWARD” (S:8 A:28) 3-
We
all love money and property. To give
some of it away is an expression of Faith and trust that Allah’s reward is more
secure, greater and everlasting. Our
possessions belong to Allah the Highest in fact and we are temporarily in
charge of it. More we love the things we
give, more it is an expression of faith and righteousness. Allah the Highest said: “YOU WILL NOT ACHIEVE RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTIL YOU SPEND OUT
OF WHAT YOU LOVE” (S:3 A:92) The Parable is that of a garden of fruit trees on top of a
hill. Hills usually have more rain and
moisture like dew. When this garden has
heaven rain, its harvest doubles, but if it does not, it still has good
harvest. It has good harvest at any
circumstances. Such is the outcome of a
charity for Allah’s pleasure; it always gives us a good yield and reward. We should note however that this good yield is conditioned by the
intention for giving the charity, being for Allah’s pleasure. Allah the Highest
looks at our intentions before our deeds.
Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him said: “But your deeds depend upon your intention, and every one
will be rewarded according to his intentions” (B: Eman; 41 & M:
Emarah; 155 & D: Talaq; 11 & T: Fadael Al-Jehad; 16) B: Bukhari M: Muslim Mal: Malek A: Ahmed D: Abu
