274- THOSE WHO SPEND OF THEIR WEALTH, BY NIGHT AND BY DAY, IN SECRET AND IN PUBLIC, THEY WILL HAVE THEIR REWARD WITH THEIR LORD, NEITHER THERE IS FEAR UPON THEM NOR SHALL THEY BE SADDENED.

This Ayah is the last about charity in Sorah Baqarah.  It carries many great promises to the charitable, which give at any time of day or night, either in secret or in public, as long as their intention is right.  Allah the Highest promises them three types of rewards:

1-    “THEY WILL HAVE THEIR REWARD WITH THEIR LORD”

This reward has been spoken about before in detail.  This reward is both in this life as well as in the Hereafter.

2-    “NEITHER THERE IS FEAR UPON THEM” 

When and what should not fear?

They should not fear that what they gave has gone in vain.

They should not fear poverty because they give of their wealth to those who need, for charity does not decrease the wealth.

They should not fear the Day of Resurrection, for their charity will remove their sins and it is then that they will see their greatest rewards.

They should not fear to stand before Allah the Highest in Judgment, for Allah will be Merciful to them as they were merciful to others.

They should not fear the Hell-Fire, for their charity will be standing between them and the fire protecting them.

3-    “NOR SHALL THEY BE SADDENED”

They will never be saddened or regret their charity.  Particularly on the Day of Resurrection, “WHEN SOME FACES BECOME WHITE AND OTHER FACES BECOME BLACK” Blackened faces mean saddened faces.  Charitable people will never have their faces blackened with sadness on that day, for they will be pleased and delighted by the reward for their charity.  The Day of Judgment will be a day of happiness and delight for them not a day of grief and sorrow.
